What is an ilustrum?

An ilustrum is a virtual card or sticker. The collections are completed by sticking all the required ilustrums into the corresponding album until they are full.

How do I get ilustrums?

You can get ilustrums by correctly answering the trivia. Also you can swap your repeated ilustrums or offer sestertius to other players in exchange for the ilustrums that you need (permutatio).

How do I stick the ilustrums in the album?

Each ilustrum has a number which corresponds to its place in the album, find the correct page then drag and drop the sticker into its place.

How can I see the information of the ilustrums that I have stuck in my album?

When the cursor goes over the ilustrum in the album you will see an "i" (information) and by clicking on it the image will magnify and you will see the information included on the ilustrum.

Why do some ilustrums have gold or silver stars on them?

The ilustrums with gold or silver stars aren’t very common and are more difficult to get.

How many gold ilustrums are there in each collection?

Not all collections are the same size which means that number of golds also varies. However we can say that approximately 7% of the ilustrums in an album are gold ilustrums.

Can I see the album of a collection that I have finished?

Yes, you can see it whenever you want. In your profile you have two lists, the collections that you are playing and those you have completed. In the completed list click on the album you want to view and you will access your completed album. You will be able to fully examine your finished album.

What is a trivia?

A trivia is a question about the subject of the collection.
It has been approved according to the criteria of the Dominus of the collection. If you answer it correctly you will get an envelope containing ilustrums and/or prizes. The faster you give the correct answer, the more ilustrums you will get in the envelope. (up to a maximum of 3 ilustrums)

How can I answer trivia?

Each collection has its own trivia. You can use your daily free trivias or buy them for 1 sestertius.
You can answer as many trivias as you want, whilst you have sestertius of course. You can access the trivia by clicking on the "Trivia" option found in each collection.

What is a trivia aurum?

These are the trivia that are more difficult for ilustrum players to get right. These trivia double the number of ilustrums you can get with a correct answer. This means that you can win as many as 6 ilustrums in an envelope.

Who makes the trivias?

Some of the trivias in a collection are written by the Dominus him/herself. However, the other users can propose trivias which will be added to those of the Dominus, of they have been accepted previously. When you are answering a trivia you will see the name and image of the person who wrote the trivia next to the question.

How do I know which of my trivias has been accepted by the dominus of a collection?

You will get an e-mail to say whether your trivia has been accepted or rejected. You can also look on your profile clicking in the label My trivias and there you will see the trivia you have sent for each collection, and also you will see how many are waiting to be checked.

Can I propose trivia to the dominus of the collection?

Yes, you can send trivias for the collections that are in creation mode. Go to the Creatium area and then go to 'Propose trivia'.

Can I propose trivia for collections that are already published?

No, you can only propose trivias for those collections that are not yet published, they can be found in the Creatium area and then go to 'Propose trivia'.

I have found an incorrect trivia. What should I do?

We've developed an integrated reporting system for incorrect trivias.
When you answer a trivia a label with the text "Report this trivia" will appear. Click on it and you will see some suggested motives for reporting the trivia.
Choose at least one motive and send your report.

What status must I have to be able to report trivias?

To be able to report incorrect trivias you must have reached Libertus status to have sufficient knowledge of ilustrum for this task.

What happens with the reported trivias?

The trivias that are considered incorrect by a suitable number of users will disappear from the collection. Once they are corrected they will return to the system.

Sestertius

What is a sestertius?

The sestertius is the official ilustrum currency that is used for buying trivia and for swapping in the permutatios.

What is the salarium?

The salarium is the quantity of trivias/sestertius we give you daily so that you can play ilustrum. Your salarium varies according to your status: the higher your status, the more salarium. See the status page to see what quantities correspond to each status.

I haven’t got anymore sestertius. How can I get some more?

You can get them in several ways:
  • In the ilustrum Store you can recharge sestertius using one of the following payment methods:
    1. PayPal
    2. Credit card
    3. Paysafecard
    4. By sending a SMS from your mobile phone.
  • Filling in your profile data
  • Proposing trivia for any of the collections in the creation phase that are in the Creatium area and then go to 'Propose Trivia'.
  • Guessing trivias and earning prizes in the envelopes
  • Finishing collections and sending us your valoration
  • Sharing some game actions on Facebook and Twitter
  • In the weekly newsletter that you get by e-mail

When do I get my next salarium payment?

You will be paid your salarium everyday that you connect from midnight in your local time zone which is the time that you have selected in the configuration section of your profile.

Why don’t I get my salarium payment from midnight?

If you don’t get your salarium after midnight in your local time zone, set the correct time zone in the configuration section of your profile. Within two days you will get your salarium payment from midnight in your local time.

When I logged-in to my account it looked like some sestertius have disappeared. What happened?

If a user accepts one of your permutatios where you offer sestertius, the system automatically deducts them from your account, whether you are connected or not. In the same way sestertius will be added if a permutatio, where you asked for sestertius, is accepted.
The Permutatio History offered by ilustrum Premium helps to clarify any doubts in such situations.

What is a permutatio?

Permutatios are the actions between two players when they want to swap repeated ilustrums.
You can also exchange ilustrums for sestertius. When you get a permutatio from another player you have three options: accept it, reject it or make a counter-offer.
5 ilustrums is the maximum possible to offer or demand in each permutatio.

Why do I get cancelled permutatios?

There are two motives for cancellations:
  • One is that one or more of the ilustrums that wanted to swap (you or the other player) is no longer available.
  • The other motive is that the player who proposed the permutatio with you has cancelled it because they are not interested in the deal anymore.

Why do I get rejected permutatios?

The only motive for getting a rejected permutatio is when the player who receives your permutatio offer isn’t interested in it and rejects it.

What is the ilustratum level?

The ilustratum level is the level you get when you answer correctly 40 trivia in each collection.

What does the ilustratum level let you do?

Getting the ilustratum level in a collection will let you:
  1. Raise your status when you finish a collection for the first time.
  2. Enter Olympus when you finish a collection.

How many Trivia must I answer correctly to get the ilustratum level?

You must answer correctly 40 trivia to get the ilustratum level.

How do I know how many more TRIVIA I need to reach the ilustratum level?

In the upper part of the page for the collection you will see the minimum number of Trivia you must get right to reach the ilustratum level. When you reach it the icon will light up. You will also see a counter that shows the number of correct Trivia in that collection.

When I have the ilustratum level does it work for all the collections?

No, you have to get the ilustratum level in each collection that you play.

Status

What is status?

It’s the level a player is assigned in ilustrum. All the players start at the lowest status (servus) and can rise up to the highest status (Imperator).

How many status are there?

There are 10 status:
  1. Servus
  2. Libertus
  3. Peregrinus
  4. Proletarius
  5. Legionarius
  6. Eques
  7. Quaestor
  8. Praetor
  9. Generalis
  10. Imperator
Each status may have several ranks. For more information, go to the status page.

How do you increase your status?

You increase your status by finishing collections and reaching the Ilustratum level in all of them. You move up one level for every finished collection, your daily salarium also increases.

Does your Status go up if you repeat a collection?

No, your Status only goes up the first time you finish a collection. If you finished a collection without reaching the ilustratum level, you will have the opportunity to repeat that collection and be able to move up one level if you reach the Ilustratum level.

What is the Podium?

The Podium indicates your position in relation to the rest of the players (percentage of the collection completed).

What is Olympus?

Olympus is where you find the players who have already completed the collection. They are ordered by the time taken to finish it.

I've finished a collection, my status hasn't gone up. Why?

Our system automatically puts up your status when you finish a collection. If your status hasn’t gone up it is because you didn’t get to the Ilustratum level in that collection. If you have closed the collection without achieving Ilustratum level, you can start the collection again, and if you get 40 trivia correct the system will count it this time and your level will go up.

Sapiens

What is a Sapiens?

"Sapiens" is the latin word for "he who knows", the wise. But it is also a distinction that ilustrum gives to the players with knowledge on the topics of the collections still in creation, and who have a desire for creating content in these collections. The users with a certain number of own accepted trivia will receive a bookmark in their avatars being then recognized as Sapiens.

How can I become a Sapiens?

¡It’s very easy! Just go to the area "Propose trivia" in Creatium and propose your own trivia in those collections still in creation. When the Dominus have accepted a minimum of 100 trivia, you will be given the first distinction as Sapiens.
At last, the share of knowledge has its recognition!

How many Sapiens distinctions can I get?

There are four types of Sapiens distinguishments in Ilustrum: bronze, silver, gold and ruby. When a player has had 100 trivia proposals accepted, they will get the Sapiens bronze distinguishment. In the same way, when they get to have 500 trivias accepted they will get the Sapiens silver distinguishment and when they get to have 1,000 trivias accepted, they will get the Sapiens golden distinguishment. Finally, if a player is really a winner and hungry for triumphs, and reaches 3,000 or more accepted trivias, ilustrum will award them the Sapiens ruby distinguishment.

How can I know how many accepted trivia I have?

Visit your profile page and you will see a progress bar next to your avatar. This progress bar indicates the number of trivia that are left to get the silver-plated distinction. When you get the silver-plated distinction, then the bar represents the number of trivia left for the golden-plated distinction.
You can also find this progress bar by clicking on the My trivias link above your avatar in your profile page.

Jokers

What is the Joker?

The Joker is a special card that you can use to replace any missing ilustrum from any collection.

How can I get the Joker?

You can acquire the Joker from the ilustrum Store.
You can also get a Joker by inviting a friend to ilustrum. Visit this page and share a link with your friends and acquaintances. If you do that, both of you will receive a Joker. And finally, you can also found a Joker as a prize after guessing a trivia correctly.

How many Jokers can I use in a collection?

You can use a maximum of 3 Jokers in each collection.

When can I use a Joker?

You can use them whenever you want to replace an ilustrum that is missing.

How many times can I use a Joker?

Each Joker can only be used once to replace any ilustrum from any collection.

How are Jokers used?

To use a Joker follow these steps:
  1. Open the album of the collection where you want to use the Joker.
  2. Click on the Joker image in the space of the ilustrum that you want to obtain.
  3. Confirm in the pop up screen that you want to carry out the action.
  4. The ilustrum you desire will appear in the new ilustrums zone and you can drag it to the album.

Can I change a Joker for an ilustrum from another player or sell it for sestertius?

No, the Joker cannot be swapped or sold, it is non-transferable.

I just invited a friend to ilustrum. He got the Joker but I did not. What happened?

When you invite a new user to ilustrum by sharing your link, he receives its Joker when he starts his first collection. You will receive your Joker when your friend reaches the ilustratum level in any collection.

How can I send a private message to another player?

You can do it in two ways:
  • One is to go to the profile of the player you want to send a message to and click on Send message.
  • Or go to your message box, click the New message button, start to write the name of a player and select it from the dropdown list.

How can I change the language of the ilustrum interface?

The interface language can be changed through the links in the footer of the website. You can also change it from your account settings.

How can I change the language of a collection that I have started?

You can change its language from your profile, in the 'playing' collections tab; access the configuration of the collection by clicking on the gear icon of the collection you want to configurate. You will find all the available languages for that collection.
You can also change its language from the main page of the desired collection. You will find a gear icon next to the album cover.

How can I change my ilustrum profile photo?

The players who have Facebook linked to ilustrum will use, initially, your facebook profile photo. However all players, including those linked to Facebook, can change the image from their user profile page.

How can I quit a collection that I have started?

If you want to quit a collection that you have already started, go to the home page of that collection. Next to the album cover, you will see a toothed gear, click on this gear and a pop-up window will appear. There you will be able to quit a collection. You can also access to the configuration pop-up from your playing collections list in your profile page. Remember – you will permanently lose everything you have in the collection if you quit it. Later, if you wish, you can start it again from zero.

How can I view a collection I have already finished?

If you want to view a collection you have already finished, go to your profile page. You will see a box with a 'completed' label with all the collections you have finished. Click on any of them to view a finished album again.

Brutus

Who is Brutus?

Brutus is the sentinel of the ilustrum community. His function is to ensure good practice for everybody in every site related with ilustrum™.

What does Brutus watch?

  1. That you use correct language and behaviour: You are not allowed to use inappropriate language that may offend, discredit or insult other users. There will also be sanctions for behaviour that incites violence, racism, sexism, etc. This rule will also be applied to nicks and avatars.
  2. Tolerance and respect to other users: ilustrum is a multicultural and multilingual community, open to all and where everyone has the opportunity to participate in different subjects and languages.
  3. Good use of ilustrum You should make proper use of your account and ilustrum profile. You may not use the system fraudulently and/or try to manipulate it to influence your playing results. For example have several dormant accounts only for collecting the daily salarium, and then to transfer the Sestertius to another account.
  4. The use of the brand or emblems of ilustrum, such as the Dominus icon or the ilustrum logo on profile photos or in ilustrums in any collection.

What can Brutus do if I don’t follow his rules?

Depending on your infringement, Brutus could send you a warning message for you to solve some problem that has been detected in your account. And, if you repeatedly infringe the rules of participation, Brutus will proceed to withdraw your salarium, or expel you, for a few days. If your fault is very serious, Brutus will block your account permanently. Brutus reserves the right to ban you directly with no warning, if they consider it appropriate.

What is the function of NON GRATA?

The NON GRATA function allows you to block contact with those users who you want to avoid. Either because you have been treated badly, or have been annoyed or cheated at some time. The blocked user will not be able to send you messages nor do permutatios with you, nor you with them.

Who is the dominus of a collection?

It is the person who has created the collection and is in charge of checking the trivia proposals from other players to decide whether to accept or reject them.

What minimum status do I need to achieve to be able to become a Dominus of a collection?

You have to reach Quaestor status. Once you have finished 21 collections, and achieve ilustratum level in each of them, you can become a Dominus of your own collection.

How can I create a collection?

In the upper part of your user profile you will find the option Creatium, it explains the conditions, requirements and instructions for creating one. First of all, we will ask you to send us some sample trivias and ilustrums so that our team can check over your subject, the quality of writing and the trivias that you send. Why do some players have an orange star on their avatar?

Because they are dominus, which means that they have created at least one collection.

Why are collections discontinued?

Collections can be discontinued for various reasons:
  1. The theme of the collection or the collection itself has become outdated over time.
  2. The quality of the trivia and graphic contents of the collection could be improved.
  3. It is subject to some type of claim for intellectual property rights.

What types of images can I use to make my ilustrums?

You can use any image, provided you have the author's consent and permission to use it. Of course also images with Creative-Commons licenses such as fan-arts and images of that are of your own authorship can be used. An Ilustrum user has used an image of mine without having my permission nor asking permission to use it in their album. What I can do?

If you own a picture and/or contents of an album and the Dominus of that collection has not asked your permission, you must prove that you have the rights to these images and/or content. Then we will inform the Dominus of the matter and proceed to remove the image from the album and if necessary, withdraw the whole album if is shown to infringe copyright law in most of its ilustrums.

Creatium

What is CREATIUM?

Creatium is the space for creating content in ilustrum. Creatium consists of 3 areas: VOTE, PROPOSE TRIVIA and CREATE.

What can I do in CREATIUM?

Each area of the Creatium area is designated to a specific function for creating and promoting content by the users themselves in ilustrum.
In the CREATE area, any user with at least Legionarius status can create their own collection of ilustrums, choosing their own images, the topic and the trivia.
In the PROPOSE TRIVIA area, all ilustrum users can add trivias to the collections being created and earn sestertius for doing it.
In the VOTE area, all users can vote and give Creatium points to the completed collections so as to decide which will be the next one that can be played on ilustrum.

How long before the next collection comes out?

Go to the VOTE area, there you will see a counter that will indicate how long before the next collection comes out which will be the most voted.

What do I gain by participating in CREATIUM?

Depending on the area you participate in, ilustrum will reward you according to your effort and accuracy.
If a user creates a collection and it gets the most votes, so that it can be played on ilustrum, this Dominus will be compensated with an orange star icon on their profile photo which carries the title of Dominus, with the recognition and distinction that this bears.
The user who proposes a trivia, which the Dominus of the collection accepts, will earn 5 sestertius for the trivia proposed.
Finally, if a user votes for a collection, it will be him/her who decides which collections will be played on ilustrum.
